The Department of Media Studies at Bishop Speechly College offers a dynamic and industry-oriented MA in Journalism and Mass Communication (MAJMC), designed to mould passionate storytellers into confident media professionals. With a perfect blend of academic excellence and practical training, the Department prepares students to thrive in the rapidly evolving world of journalism, digital media, broadcasting, and communication. Our curriculum goes beyond conventional classroom learning through customised add-on-courses that bridge the gap between theory and industry demands. Guided by experienced faculty and inspired by interactions with prominent media personalities, students gain valuable insights into contemporary media practices and professional ethics.

At the Department of Media Studies, learning begins in the field. Students actively participate in reporting, content creation, and media production from the early stages of the programme. They report on major cultural and public events, often in collaboration with leading regional media organizations in Kerala, which provide firsthand experience in newsroom culture, live reporting, interviewing, and event reportage. The Department also offers a vibrant platform through the in-house Speechly News Channel, where students produce news bulletins, documentaries, short films, human-interest stories, and digital content. This immersive environment encourages creativity, critical thinking, teamwork, and technical expertise, helping students build strong portfolios even before graduation.
